Floating with a Honu (Turtle)

Finally something new to show you. This was my first attempt at fabric collage. It was fun and I am very happy with the final product. It was done on stretched cotton canvas and measures 5" x 7". The turtle was done free hand and I have to say that I am rather proud of the way he came out. I learned all kinds of things doing this picture and have lots of ideas for new work.

It is so hard these days trying to create anything... I spend 10 hours a week on the road commuting too and from work... time that would be better spent playing with fabric! I hope to do a bit better now that the summer is over and we are done house hunting for a few months... maybe... might be going to check out a few this weekend. The real estate agent says that they are located on the top of this very steep road that is most likely not much fun when there is a foot of new snow. They are quiet and private though so it might be worth the dirt road and steep hill.

"Dreams" May Challenge

"Dreams" is the May challenge in the WWAO yahoo group and this is going to be my contribution. It isn't done yet but I like the way it is coming out so far. This is a new technique for me... I have Melody Johnson to thank for the suggestion of Wonder Under. I discovered her blog several weeks ago and found that she has been very generous with how she creates her work.

I tried to find dreamy, light fabrics; something reflective of a dream state. The marbled fabrics were done by me several years ago. The white bubble has teddy bears on it. I plan on doing some machine quilting on it... something else that is new for me. I'm not quite sure what I will be quilting on it... suggestions are welcome if you want to leave me a comment.

June

First let me say welcome to my new blog.

June is going to be such a fun, wonderful month for me. The first weekend in June I am going to a photorealistic fabric collage workshop with Laura Breitman. Her work is beautiful; you can see some of it here. Towards the end of the month I am going on a bus trip with the quilt guild that I belong to. We are going to the quilt show in Rutland. We are the featured guild this year and this quilt will be included in our exhibit.

Because of all this fun stuff happening in the near future I won't be creating any new art but will instead be trying to finish up the more traditional quilting that is piling up and taking up space in my sewing room. I have a feeling that come July I am going to be busting at the seams with new ideas. I have lots of new ideas now but don't want to start them until after my workshop.
